Leeds United have this morning moved to secure Paudie O’Connor’s future, with the defender agreeing a new two-year deal with the Sky Bet Championship club.

As Leeds moved to confirm O’Connor’s contract extension, it was also announced that the Whites would be looking to move the centre-back out on-loan ahead of the new season, with League One looking set to be his destination.

For Leeds, they will want the defender to be playing regular football, but also be in an environment that might be similar to Elland Road.

Here at FLW, we believe a move to Sunderland could be perfect for that, with all parties involved set to benefit.

Jack Ross is currently preparing his squad for the League One season, with plenty of changes in personnel expected at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland’s budget is not a big one, which could leave them relying on loans exactly like O’Connor.

The 20-year-old impressed during his handful of appearances last season, even turning in an impressive performance against Sunderland on what was his Championship debut.

The centre-back is tough, despite his young age, as well as having great ability on the ball.

From Leeds’ point of view, sending O’Connor out on-loan is important, and at Sunderland, he would be playing for a fanbase who are equally as demanding as those at Elland Road.

O’Connor’s next move is crucial for his development and his Leeds future, with the youngster needing to impress.

The Stadium of Light could be the perfect place for O’Connor to improve.
