Speaking to Spanish outlet Onda Regional de Murcia, Leeds United goalkeeper Kiko Casilla has discussed how he and his team-mates are going to treat the promotion run-in like a mini-season, providing the campaign is resumed after the current pause.

The Whites are top of the second tier and are eager to seal their return to the Premier League after a long spell away, and so naturally this pause in play has been a real testing time for their patience.

They do, of course, understand why it's had to happen but, even so, they'll be begging for things to get back to normal as soon as possible.

One man, though, who will not be playing straight away once things do begin again is Kiko Casilla, with several games still left of his suspension for a racism charge.

He has, however, undertaken an interview to look at the run-in for the remainder of the campaign and had this to say:

"We’d managed five straight wins, so we were giving ourselves a good chance of promotion.

“Now we have to wait to see if we are finishing the season, but if we are, we have to return and treat the nine remaining games like a mini-season.

“We don’t know if that will be 100 per cent possible but if we can then we have to try to secure promotion because that was the objective. This team has everything to achieve it."

The Verdict

Certainly, this is a scenario that few in the game could have planned for even in their wildest dreams and so it'll be interesting to see who has got things right in terms of conditioning and fitness.

Leeds are seen as one of the sharpest groups in the league, of course, and they'll be expecting to pick up where they left off and go all guns blazing into the final games of the year.
