Kalvin Phillips has been discussing his pride at playing for Leeds United, with the midfielder admitting he would love to continue doing it for the rest of his life.

Leeds’ No.23 has enjoyed a good start to the season under Marcelo Bielsa, adapting well to a new defensive position under the Argentinian.

The 22-year-old has been ever-present so far this season under Bielsa, moving between a defensive midfield position and centre-back.

He’s helped the Whites pick up 30 points from the opening 17 fixtures of the season, with Bielsa’s side looking to establish themselves in the Championship’s promotion race.

In a recent interview with Leeds’ official media, Phillips has been discussing playing for his hometown club:

“I love playing for Leeds, it is my city and if I can do that for the rest of my life I would love it.”

Elland Road has been close to capacity this season, with over 30,000 often flooding through the gates at LS11.

“It is amazing.  I’m from Leeds and I’ve always known what the crowds are like.  It is just an honour for me to pull on the White shirt every week and play in front of them.  There are not many fans that you get who travel both home and away.  The numbers away from home are ridiculous and we just want to reward them by getting back to the Premier League,” Phillips continued.

“I’ve grown up watching and supporting Leeds, so to come and walk out in front of 30,000 really is a dream come true and I hope I can do it for a very long time."

Phillips was part of the Leeds side to suffer a heavy defeat to West Brom prior to the international break, with Bielsa’s side picked apart by their promotion rivals at the Hawthorns.

The Whites are back in action over the course of the next week, with two home fixtures taking centre stage.

Bielsa’s side host Bristol City on Saturday before entertaining Reading on Tuesday.

The Verdict

Phillips clearly has great pride in playing for Leeds, with the club’s supporters sure to love his comments here.

The 22-year-old has progressed through Leeds’ academy and is now a vital player under Bielsa.

His improvement this season has been remarkable, with the midfielder absolutely key to Leeds’ style.
