Former Cardiff City player Lee Tomlin has taken to Instagram to send a message to the club's fans after his departure was announced earlier today.

The Bluebirds earlier confirmed that Tomlin has left the club by mutual consent, following lengthily discussions with the management team and hierarchy.

Tomlin has failed to feature for Cardiff at all this season, which meant that plenty of question marks emerged over his future at the club as time went on.

Now that talk has all come to a head, with the two parties agreeing to go their separate ways for what can be assumed to be various reasons.

Upon seeing his departure rubber stamped and confirmed this morning, Tomlin took to social media to post the following message of thanks to the supporters:

Tomlin leaves the club after making 57 appearances over four years and in the end contributed 11 goals and 11 assists whilst largely playing as a second striker.

In all he largely failed to make too much of a lasting impact whilst at the Cardiff City Stadium and it appears that Mick McCarthy didn't feel that there was a place for him in his current formation.

There is no doubt that Tomlin has the ability to contribute at a good level at the age of 32 and it will be interesting to see which club he ends up with moving forwards.

Some fans will argue however that he still could have been a good option for Cardiff to make use of, particularly as they are going through their fair share of struggles.

However only time will tell if the right decision has been made, as Tomlin isn't getting any younger and inevitably would have been wanting to play regularly at this stage of his career, which ultimately would have been one of the main reasons behind his departure.
