Lee Peltier starts: The predicted Middlesbrough XI to face Barnsley this evening

Middlesbrough will be looking to build upon their victory over Peterborough United when they face Barnsley tonight at the Riverside Stadium.

Goals from Paddy McNair and Josh Coburn sealed all three points for Boro last Saturday as they delivered a response to their recent defeat to Hull City.

Currently 14th in the Championship, Middlesbrough will move above Bristol City, Nottingham Forest, Blackburn Rovers and Millwall in the standings if they beat Barnsley in-front of their own supporters.

Whilst manager Neil Warnock is set to be without the likes of Marc Bola, Dael Fry and Grant Hall for this clash due to their respective injury issues, Lee Peltier could return to the club’s match-day squad after being suspended for his side’s clash with Peterborough.

Here, we take a look at how Middlesbrough could line up against Barnsley this evening…

Having utilised the 3-4-1-2 formation against Peterborough, Warnock may opt to stick with this particular set up in tonight’s fixture.

Goalkeeper Joe Lumley will be looking to claim his fifth clean-sheet of the season against Barnsley.

McNair could be partnered by Peltier and Sol Bamba in central defence.

Peltier managed to show glimpses of promise in this particular position during the club’s clashes with Sheffield United and Hull and thus will be confident in his ability to deliver the goods in this evening’s showdown if he is given the nod to start.

Marcus Tavernier and Onel Hernandez will be tasked with providing width in this formation whilst Matt Crooks will be partnered by Martin Payero in the heart of midfield.

Duncan Watmore will feature in a more advanced central role for Boro behind strikers Uche Ikpeazu and Andraz Sporar.

Warnock will be hoping that Ikpeazu and Sporar will be able to kick-start their respective campaigns by finding the back of the net against Barnsley.

Ikpeazu has failed to score for Middlesbrough since their 3-2 defeat to Queens Park Rangers in August whilst Sporar has also been relatively toothless in-front of goal.

During the seven games that Sporar has played for Boro in the Championship this season, he has only managed to score one goal for the club.
