Lee Peltier has thanked Middlesbrough and the club's fans for their support over the past season, after his time at The Riverside Stadium came to an end.

The defender joined 'Boro last summer, joining the club after his departure from West Brom to reunite with his former Cardiff manager Neil Warnock, who was replaced by Chris Wilder in November.

Following that move, the 35-year-old would go on to make 26 appearances in all competitions for 'Boro, who missed out on a Championship play-off place after a seventh place finish in the second-tier table.

With his contract at 'Boro expiring this summer, it was subsequently confirmed that Peltier will not be given a new deal at The Riverside, leaving the full-back to once again weigh up his future.

For now though, it seems that the defender is still keen to see 'Boro earn more success in the future, having seemingly enjoyed his time with the club.

Taking to Twitter to reflect on his departure from Middlesbrough, Peltier wrote:

"Just want to say a big thank you to boro and all the fans , had a fantastic year at the club and appreciate all the support from the fans and staff. wish you all the best and hope you get to where you belong! Again thanks for everything pelts"

The Verdict

You do get the feeling that Middlesbrough made the right decision in moving Peltier on in the summer.

Having fallen short in their pursuit of a top six spot, and with it promotion, this season, the club are likely going to have to make some changes to their squad if they are to put that right next season.

Given he was not a regular during the 2021/22 campaign, and the fact that at 35 he is approaching the latter stages of his career, Peltier was a more obvious candidate to be moved on.

It will be interesting therefore, to see what the defender does next, considering his experience at this level could make him an appealing target for certain other clubs.
