Bristol City manager Lee Johnson has revealed that January loan signing Markus Henriksen has already received offers from abroad for next season but may opt to say with the Robins if his spell at the club is a success.

The midfielder made the switch to Ashton Gate from Hull City on transfer deadline day, joining on loan until the end of the current campaign.

Henriksen has been out of favour at the Yorkshire club due to ongoing disagreements about a new contract.

The Norweigan has not featured for the Tigers since the end of the 2018/19 campaign but was previously an integral player–making 70 Championship appearances for them in the previous two seasons and wearing the captain's armband.

The 27-year-old becomes a free agent in the summer and, speaking to Gregor MacGregor from the Bristol Post, Johnson confirmed that the Norway international has already received offers from abroad for next season.

However, the City boss did not rule out a permanent stay for Henriksen should things work out at the South West club.

Johnson also revealed that he sees the loan signing competing for roles as both a defensive midfielder and a central attacking midfielder.

The Verdict

It's interesting to hear that Henriksen has already received offers from abroad for next season but perhaps not at all surprising given he was an integral player at Hull and is set to become a free agent.

With captain Josh Brownhill signing for Burnley in January, you feel Henriksen could have a big role to play for the Robins as he adds a slightly different skillset to the current midfielders at the club.

If he can help City achieve a play-off finish and prove his worth, you feel they may be keen to try and land him permanently.

It's a huge opportunity for Henriksen to prove his quality to the Robins and any other clubs that may be interested in signing him in the summer.
