Following the Shrewsbury Town game, Lee Johnson reacted to the surprise transfer leak of transfer target Eddie Nketiah, with a potential loan deal from Arsenal close to happening.

On Arsenal's website, the admin had put an "on loan" symbol with Bristol City's logo underneath on Nketiah's player profile page, but this was quickly changed back to Leeds United before any symbol of Nketiah heading out on loan was deleted.

Arsenal may have attempted to cover their tracks, however they hadn't been quick enough to stop Bristol City supporters from getting hold of the Nketiah mishap and making it public for all to see.

During Johnson's post-match press conference following their 1-0 defeat away to Shrewsbury Town in an FA Cup third round replay, Johnson was informed of the mistake on Arsenal's website, his reaction being reported by BristolLive.

Johnson said: "No, I didn’t see any of that.

"I was preparing for the football match. I don't know if that's close because he's somebody else's player and it's difficult to talk about someone else's player.

"I'm sure there's a lot of interest in Eddie because he's a talented boy."

Nketiah has been linked with Bristol City since the summer, when he turned the club down in favour of a loan move to Leeds United.

However, his loan at Leeds didn't work out as he only started two games in the Championship for them, and was recalled by Arsenal as Mikel Arteta ponders the striker's next destination.

The Verdict

Johnson is bound to have not worried about the Nketiah leak, as he would have been fully concentrated on the Shrewsbury game.

The Bristol City manager will however be wondering whether a deal for the striker could be close, and he will be waiting to hear whether the Robins have been able to capture their long-term target this January.
