Bristol City manager Lee Johnson has said adding forwards is his priority for the rest of the transfer window but that he is happy with his current squad.

The Robins have been busy in the window so far and signed seven new players, including permanent deals for Chelsea duo Tomas Kalas and Jay Dasilva.

Playmaker Sammy Szmodics has been the only attacking addition this summer, despite the club being linked with multiple forwards.

Keiffer Moore, Britt Assombalonga, Lucas Joao and Eddie Nketiah have all been rumoured targets of the Robins.

Speaking to BBC Radio Bristol, Johnson admitted that bolstering his options in the final third was top of his list before the window closes.

He said: "Yeah I think so [forwards are the priority] - attacking players are always important.

"Because I do like to rotate the attacking side of the pitch. And I do like to look at various ways to break down an opposition.

"Sometimes that can be pace and power, and sometimes that can be guile and elegance.

"And we need to try and get all those clubs in the bag to be successful in the season.

"I'm happy with what I've got but as any manager will always tell you we're only a couple away."

The Verdict

It should please City fans that Johnson has acknowledged that the front line is an area that needs improvement.

The Robins scored 10 fewer goals than any top-six side and 34 fewer than league winners Norwich City.

If the South West club are to go one better than last year and qualify for the play-offs they need to close that gap in 2019/20.

CEO Mark Ashton has indicated that there is "still more business to do" – if that includes a high-quality striker, the Robins could have a real shot of a top-six finish this year.
