A report on the Mirror’s live transfer blog (19/12, 10:33), has revealed that Lee Johnson is unable to rule out a January move for Aden Flint, despite Bristol City’s lofty position in the Sky Bet Championship table.

The Robins are a surprise package in the race for promotion in the Championship, with Johnson’s side currently sitting third in the table, just four points outside the division’s top-two heading into Saturday’s round of fixtures.

Flint has been key to their magnificent start to the season, with the 28-year-old defender scoring six goals in just 18 Championship appearances for Johnson’s side this season.

However, after a summer of speculation saw Birmingham City have two bids rejected for the defender, there is once again doubt surrounding Flint’s long-term future at Ashton Gate, with even Johnson unable guarantee that the influential 28-year-old will still be around following next month’s transfer window.

When asked about if Flint could be on the move in January, Johnson said: “I don’t know, is the honest answer. It’s a crazy world of football now. Aden’s been playing very, very well.

“We had the issue in the summer and I had to make the decision to play him or not.

“At times I didn’t feel it was right but I always kept that open and honest communication with Aden.”

Johnson and his Bristol City side take a break from Championship action this week, with the Robins back competing in the Carabao Cup, when they welcome Manchester United to Ashton Gate tomorrow evening for an eagerly anticipated clash.

The Verdict

This is slightly worrying for Bristol City’s supporters, as they will be desperate to see Flint remain at Ashton Gate, as he is vital to their push for promotion in the Championship.

So far this season, Flint has been exceptional, and losing him in the New Year would be a mammoth blow for Johnson, who will hope he can deliver the most unlikely of promotions.

After Flint’s start to the season, interest will be expected.
