Bristol City manager Lee Johnson has revealed the situation surrounding striker Famara Diedhiou's contract, revealing that the experienced forward is someone that the club are aiming to keep beyond the summer.

The Senegal international is out of contract in the summer, and with a 12-month option in the contract, the Robins will be keen to exercise it based on the form that their 27-year-old striker is showing.

Diedhiou has been pivotal in their four-game winning run, which included scoring a superb diving header in the 1-0 win away at QPR on Saturday which saw the Robins maintain their spot in the play-offs.

BristolLive reported the news from Johnson's pre-match press conference ahead of the Birmingham City game, where he said: "Fam's a player that we like.

"We look to keep our best players but there are always circumstances that go into it and it wouldn't be right for me to reveal.

"But certainly coach-player relationship is extremely strong and we want nothing but the best for him and hopefully the best is staying with Bristol City."

The striker arrived in Bristol during the 2017 summer transfer window, and he has gone on to be a vital player for the red side of Bristol since.

In two-and-a-half years at Ashton Gate, the forward has netted 37 goals in 108 appearances across all competitions, his ability to hold up the ball and presence from set pieces both offensively and defensively seeing him become a fans' favourite.

The Verdict

Diedhiou has been showing impressive form of late, and is probably having his best season yet in a Bristol City shirt.

Johnson has a close bond with the striker that he brought to the club a couple of years ago, and has instilled his trust by making him one of the first names on the team sheet.

The striker has earned a contract extension at Bristol City, and Johnson would be mad for not renewing it.
