Bristol City reached the last eight of the Carabao Cup after an emphatic 4-1 win over Crystal Palace.

It's the first time the club have reached the last eight of the competition since 1989 and they will be the sole Championship club left.

Bakary Sako had actually given the Premier League side the lead, before goals from Matty Taylor, Milan Djuric, a Joe Bryan thunderbolt and Callum O'Dowda sealed a memorable win.

Speaking to the club's official site, manager Lee Johnson admitted it took a while for his team to settle, but that they were fantastic by the end. “Did it flatter us, probably a little but but we saw at the end we were keeping the ball, stringing 20-30 passes together and it just goes to show that when we are at it, we can compete with the best. There was quality, energy, good football and two outstanding finishes. It was amazing. ”

Victory will be all the more pleasing after the Robins lose their first home game of the season on Saturday, 3-0 to Leeds United. Yet, despite Johnson making several changes, the fringe players responded in terrific fashion and they will now eagerly await the draw to find out who they face in the last eight.

The Verdict

What a night for Bristol City! They produced some magnificent football to overcome Palace, who despite making changes had a reasonably strong side out.

It was the perfect way for the Robins to bounce back after the Leeds setback and it will boost the confidence of the fans and players.

All eyes will be on the draw, with many fans one of the big hitters will be up next at Ashton Gate.
