Bristol City manager Lee Johnson has claimed that Ashley Williams will have offers come the end of the season.

The Welsh centre-back signed for the Robins in August on a free transfer and his contract is set to expire at the end of the campaign, though it is understood that he does have an option of an additional year.

Williams has been excellent for Bristol City throughout the season and has turned out to be an astute piece of business from Johnson.

The 35-year-old has been linked with clubs such as Panathinaikos and Turkish side Antalyaspor, as well as MLS side DC United. The idea being that he would sign a pre-contractual agreement ahead of the next campaign.

We're yet to see whether the club will keep him on for another year, but Johnson has stated that whether it's his side or foreign clubs, the centre-back will have offers.

Speaking to the BBC, Johnson said: "He will have offers trust me, whether it be foreign clubs or Bristol City.

"I still think he's got a least a couple years in him good level football and he looks after himself as a good professional and we'll see."

The Verdict

Williams has surprised everyone this season, he's been utterly terrific and arguably been one of the best signings in the division.

For what the Robins paid for him, they should feel as though they've got one of the biggest bargains in the league and may well decide to keep him.

The gut feeling is that if Bristol City get promoted, they may look elsewhere and for a defender with a bit more quality on the ball.

If they stay down, then there's no reason why Williams couldn't be instrumental in a push for the Premier League again next season.
