Bristol City's Lee Johnson has had his say on the social media critics aiming fire at his management and the players, stating it doesn't affect him.

The Robins boss spoke in his pre-match press conference ahead of this Saturday's trip to Wigan Athletic, and addressed the recent vitriol he has received from supporters.

A vocal section of the fanbase has turned against the manager in recent weeks after a series of poor results.

Five defeats in the last seven games has represented an alarming downturn in form, with a 1-1 draw against League One side Shrewsbury Town last weekend in the FA Cup not doing much to stop the slide.

The BS3 side have slipped down the table to 11th, and now are three points off the play-offs having been in the top six for the majority of the season up until now.

"I know how it [the criticism] affected me as a player and now it’s constant," Johnson told the Bristol Post.

The Robins provided an stark analogy to explain his thoughts on the criticism levelled at him on social media.

"It works both ways: if you’re Player A and you score the winner against Liverpool, you’re the best player for Bristol City - you’re a legend, a hero, we want your babies etc," Johnson said.

He also made clear in no uncertain terms that the intentions of some people are wrong, when it comes to the negative comments.

"Some people, dare I say it, take pleasure from other people’s failure."

The Verdict

Bristol City had an excellent start to the season, but over the last month things have started to unravel on the pitch, which has been the catalyst behind the number of critics aimed at Johnson increasing.

The goal this season is to make the play-offs, and in order to do so, the Robins have to have a consistent second half to the season.
