Bristol City midfielder Korey Smith will miss the remainder of the 2018/19 campaign through injury, reports from the Bristol Post confirm.

The 28-year old has been endured a tricky season with injuries, having been limited to just five league appearances this season due to a long-term injury, which saw him miss around seven months of the campaign.

The midfielder, who has made over 170 appearances for the Robins since his move from Oldham Athletic in 2014, sustained a foot injury in their 1-1 draw with Reading on Good Friday, and was absent from the squad that lost 2-0 to Sheffield Wednesday on Easter Monday.

And reports from the Bristol Post now confirm that Smith is out for the season, having undergone scans on Tuesday afternoon on a swollen ankle injury.

This is no doubt a major blow for the Robins in their pursuit of a play-off finish, ahead of what is shaping up to be a crucial couple of weeks for Johnson's side.

On Saturday afternoon, they host a Derby County side that occupy the final spot in the top six, therefore City simply need to win if they are to claim a play-off place this season.

The Verdict

You have got to feel for Korey Smith after this latest update.

He has endured such a tough season in terms of injuries, and was starting to look like his usual self again over the last two games.

He is such an important player for Johnson's men, and having him missing from midfield for the remainder of the season is news that they could have done without for sure.
