Lee Johnson has confirmed that Famara Diedhiou will be fined by Bristol City after his sending off against Charlton last Wednesday.

Diedhiou was awarded a straight red card for lashing out at Charlton defender Jason Pearce, and that led to a 15-man melee which has seen the Robins handed an FA charge.

The Senegalese striker was handed a three match ban, and has already missed the 2-2 draw with Wigan last Sunday.

He'll now miss the next two Robins fixtures as they face two away games at Barnsley and then Cardiff City.

Johnson has expressed his feeling that the sending off has cost the side in the game against Wigan on Sunday and that he'll be fined as per Bristol City's club rules.

Speaking to BBC Radio Bristol, Johnson said: "That [the sending off of Diedhiou and three match ban] in particular, without a question of a doubt, has cost us [against Wigan].

"And listen, when you look back at it, it was a sending off.

"And obviously Fam will be fined accordingly as per club rules."

The Verdict

Diedhiou was correctly sent-off and at the time it didn't cost Bristol City in their match with Charlton. However, Johnson is right and they lacked an attacking dimension in the fixture against Wigan on Sunday as they stumbled to a 2-2 draw.

They need the big forward back as soon as possible, and it has made life tougher for Johnson's side as  they travel to two tough away grounds in the next couple of weeks. This is a crucial part of the season for all teams, and if they can continue getting results without him then they can push on further up the table when he's back.

It does give more of an opportunity to Rodri who will be desperate to showcase his talent in the English game.
