Sheffield Wednesday caretaker manager Lee Bullen has claimed he is much happier with his squad's balance following the Owls' late activity in the transfer window.

Wednesday were extremely busy on deadline day as they secured a trio of arrivals at Hillsborough in the form of Jacob Murphy, Massimo Luongo and David Bates, while striker Lucas Joao made a late switch to Reading.

The Owls signed midfielder Luongo for an undisclosed fee from Championship rivals QPR, while Murphy and Bates arrived on loan deals from Newcastle and Hamburg respectively.

Bullen, who took over at Wednesday on a temporary basis following Steve Bruce's departure, says he has no injury worries ahead of the weekend and he will use Friday's training session to assess the availability of his new signings.

"We have no injury concerns this weekend. We’ll assess the new boys in training today," he told the club's Twitter account.

"I’m a lot happier with the balance of the squad now."

Wednesday will be targeting back-to-back wins when they face Barnsley on Saturday following their opening day success over Reading at the Madejski Stadium.

The verdict

The Owls completed some solid business on deadline day, which means they are now nicely set up for the season ahead after their opening day win.

There was cause for concern at the club following Bruce's unceremonious departure so close to the season starting, but it appears the impact of the managerial change has been minimal.

It is a huge boost for Bullen to have a fully fit squad to select from, particularly seeing as Wednesday face a difficult test in newly promoted Barnsley.

Owls fans will surely be feeling quietly confident for the season ahead if they can secure a second consecutive victory on the weekend.
