Sheffield Wednesday caretaker manager Lee Bullen has moved to quash rumours that Kieran Westwood was injured for today's game with West Brom.

The Irish stopper was surprisingly left out by Bullen after two successive clean sheets, sparking plenty of chat on social media around his future at the club going into the January window.

However, Bullen has spoken to Dom Howson of Radio Sheffield after the game, and insisted Westwood was left out not because of injury, but more for fear of breaking down during the game after playing two games in quick succession this past week.

Westwood had been left out of proceedings by previous manager Jos Luhukay, but was thrust straight back into the action by Bullen, a decision which paid dividends with two clean sheets and two wins in a row for the Owls over the Christmas period.

Wednesday fans will be hoping to see more of Westwood in the coming games as they look to continue their fine form under Bullen.

The Owls were held 1-1 by West Brom today thanks to a late Dave Jones own goal, but will enter their next game with Garry Monk's Birmingham City in high spirits one would assume.
