Sheffield Wednesday caretaker manager Lee Bullen is refusing to get carried away despite his side's encouraging start to the 2019/20 Championship campaign.

The Owls, who have still yet appoint a permanent replacement for Steve Bruce following the 58-year-old's departure earlier this summer, are currently fourth in the second-tier standings after amassing nine points from a possible twelve this month.

After kicking off the season with an impressive 3-1 victory over Reading, Wednesday have since beaten Barnsley and Luton Town with their only slip-up of the year coming against Millwall last weekend.

Although the Owls will be aiming to continue their recent form by securing a positive result against Preston North End on Saturday, Bullen has revealed that he is under no illusions about the difficulties that the Championship can pose.

Speaking to the press (as cited by the club's official Twitter account) ahead of Wednesday's visit to Deepdale, the 48-year-old said: "Things are going okay at the moment but I know how ruthless this league is.

"It's working up to now, the lads I'm working with are different class and I'm very lucky to have the support we have.

"We will always try to make the right decisions for the club."

Bullen may be without Liam Palmer for the clash with the Lilywhites after the defender sat-out of the Owls' 1-0 victory over Luton earlier this week due to a back spasm whilst goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith remains a long-term injury absentee (via The Star).

The Verdict

Whereas Preston will unquestionably ask some serious questions of Wednesday's defence tomorrow, the club's players have shown tremendous spirit this season and thus should be brimming with confidence heading into the game.

If Bullen is able to lead his side to a positive result at Deepdale, Owls chairman Dejphon Chansiri may consider offering him the managerial job on a permanent basis as it is clear that the Scotsman has established a fantastic relationship with his squad over the past few weeks.
