Sheffield Wednesday caretaker manager Lee Bullen has delivered an update on the fitness of defender Liam Palmer ahead of the game against Preston North End tomorrow.

The 27-year-old full-back was an important player for the Owls last season and has started three of their four Championship matches so far this term, although he missed the 1-0 win over Luton Town on Tuesday night with a back spasm.

Bullen was speaking to the media this morning ahead of the Championship clash at Deepdale and admitted that Palmer will be assessed after training.

"He is probably 50/50 at the moment but we will give him every chance and make a decision after training and go from there," said Bullen, at his pre-match press conference.

Sheffield Wednesday have made an encouraging start to the new season and are currently fourth in the Championship table on goal difference, after winning three of their opening four matches.

Bullen is currently in his third spell in caretaker charge at Hillsborough, after Steve Bruce controversially left the club to take charge of Newcastle United last month.

The Owls will be looking to continue their momentum with another three points against Preston on Saturday, although they are without a win in their last 13 matches at Deepdale.

The Verdict

This is encouraging news for Sheffield Wednesday fans. Palmer was a key player for Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship last term and he'd made an encouraging start to the new season at left-back.

It'll be a major boost for the Owls if he is able to return against Preston, but this latest update from Bullen suggests that he can't be too far away from returning to action.

Sheffield Wednesday have made a fantastic start to the new season and I think it's fair to say they've surprised a few people with the start they've made.

They can go into the game at Deepdale full of confidence, although Preston have also made a decent start, so it will be a tough game for them.
