Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer revealed that he will know more about his future at the League One club next week.

The 42-year-old was appointed manager of the club in September following a successful spell in caretaker charge, signing a deal until the end of the season, but his future at The Valley is still unclear.

Bowyer was speaking to the media ahead of Charlton's home game with Bradford City on Saturday and admitted that he has received an update from the club's owner, but a new deal is yet to be offered to him.

The Charlton boss revealed that he received a text message from "someone who works for the owner" saying they will propose something to him next week, although no official offer has been made.

Bowyer became caretaker manager at The Valley last season after Karl Robinson was sacked and was able to guide the club into the League One play-offs, winning six out of the final ten league matches.

Charlton were beaten in the play-off semi-finals by Shrewsbury Town and Bowyer stated that he would only stay on at the club if he was given the manager's job on a full-time basis.

However, Bowyer continued as caretaker boss for the start of this campaign before being appointed as full-time boss on a deal until the end of the season.

The Verdict:

This is potentially encouraging news for Bowyer, who is set to find out more about his future next week.

He has done a good job as Charlton boss this season, with the club currently fifth in the League One table and looking set to finish the campaign in the play-offs.

Bowyer will be trying not to let the latest news surrounding his future at the club distract him from his job and will remain focused on trying to secure the club's position in the play-offs.
