Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer has said that he believes "three more wins" could be enough to secure the club's survival in the Championship.

The Addicks moved up to 19th in the league table on Tuesday evening after an important 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground - the side's first win away from home since the end of August.

That win also opened up the gap between Charlton and the relegation zone to six points.

However, with just fourteen league games left to play, Lee Bowyer has a target in mind that he wants to reach, and the Addicks boss believes it will be enough to maintain Charlton's Championship status.

"We have 14 games left and a lot of points to be played for, with some important games, especially at home," Bowyer told the assembled media at the pre-match press conference ahead of their upcoming home game against Blackburn at a sold out Valley.

“I believe that three more wins and a couple of draws will see us safe. But that’s the minimum," he added.

The Addicks currently have 36 points, which means Bowyer is aiming for the 50 point mark to avoid the drop.

For reference, Millwall survived last season with 44 points. In spite of that, it is clear that this season the relegation fight is made up of more teams and is a lot closer.

Charlton now have back-to-back home games, where they will be aiming to achieve maximum points.

The Verdict

After an incredibly difficult couple of months that saw more than half of the first-team squad in the treatment room, bodies have begun to return at last for Charlton, and it is no surprise that results are beginning to improve.

The Addicks have won two of their last three games, and the victory at the City Ground will lift the momentum in the camp significantly.

Although a minimum target has been set for the squad to achieve, the players will know they are capable of surpassing it.
