Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer has stated that he feels the side need just "three more wins and a couple more draws" in order to guarantee safety.

The Addicks moved six points clear of the relegation zone after they were beat high-flying Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Tuesday night. Wigan Athletic drew, meaning their cushion above the drop zone was further extended.

The victory was only Charlton's third in their last 20 matches and was secured by an excellent goal from striker Lyle Taylor.

Defender Naby Sarr intercepted the ball brilliantly, before driving down the touchline and crossing for Taylor to put his first-time finish past Brice Samba in the Forest goal.

After the game, Bowyer revealed what he feels the club needs to do to stay up and insisted that there's going to be plenty of twists and turns to come.

Speaking to News Shopper, Bowyer said: "For me we need three more wins and a couple more draws for the way in and I believe in this group 100 percent.

"There’s plenty of games to go yet and plenty of twists and turns and there’s going to be teams above us that are going to get sucked into it as well."

The Verdict

It's going to be a really interesting relegation battle and one that could go down to the wire.

Wigan are the side currently occupying the last space in the drop zone but they have shown promise in their recent performances and have some massive games coming up against relegation rivals.

In fact, the Latics travel to the Valley to take on Bowyer's side in the penultimate game of the season, which could be a huge fixture in the context of both side's seasons.

Either way, it should be an interesting battle, with sides such as Stoke City and Huddersfield Town also floating above the bottom three.
