Lee Bowyer has admitted it's 'nice' to be linked with West Brom but he insisted that he's very happy at Charlton Athletic.

The Addicks chief has done a superb job at The Valley under very challenging circumstances, initially winning promotion to the Championship two years ago. Whilst they were relegated in the previous campaign, many recognise the tough situation Bowyer was in, so his stock remained high.

And, he has proven himself again in recent weeks, with the Londoners flying high in League One as their off-field issues are finally solved.

It appears his work has attracted admirers too, as the Mirror claimed this morning that Albion see Bowyer as a potential successor to Slaven Bilic if the Croatian is sacked following the Baggies tough start in the Premier League.

Speaking to the South London Press, Bowyer revealed he was flattered by the link and explained why he wants to reach the top but he also made it clear he is in no rush to move on.

"It’s nice to be recognised. It happened a few times last season and the season before. If you do well then people recognise you do well.

"I want to be successful. I’ve never once denied that. I want to be successful and be as high as I can and challenge myself. I have an owner who wants to move in the same direction. I’m happy here."

The verdict

It's no surprise to see Bowyer linked with a top-flight job because he has worked wonders with Charlton over the past few years and that's always going to appeal to owners.

But, there's no reason for Charlton fans to panic just yet, not least because Bilic remains in charge at The Hawthorns and the work he has done since arriving should also be acknowledged.

Ultimately, the Addicks are in a good place on and off the pitch right now and Bowyer's only concern will be on continuing their fine form.
