Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer says the club are 'quietly confident' that they will complete the signing of striker Tomer Hemed from Brighton.

Hemed completed his move from Brighton to Charlton on the final day of the summer transfer window, although the Addicks have yet to receive confirmation from the footballing bodies as to whether the deal was completed in time.

Asked if he knew anything more about the move following his side's 2-2 draw away at Barnsley on Saturday, Bowyer was quoted by News Hopper as saying: “We're still quietly confident that it's going to happen. Nothing's changed, we're just waiting for a reply from them [the EFL and the FA]."

Discussing the impact of the hold up on both parties, Bowyer continued: "Hopefully he can come and start training with us because we're losing out, the kid's losing out, it's just wrong."

Pondering the reasons for the delay, Bowyer appeared to suggest that the situations around League One sides Bolton and Bury, who are both in the midst of a financial crisis, could be distracting those involved, as he claimed: “There's so much going on with Bury and Bolton at the moment they must be just purely concentrating on that because we've not heard a thing back.

Having joined Brighton from Spanish side Almeria in the summer of 2015, Hemed has made 108 appearances and scored 33 goals in all competitions for the Seagulls, before spending last season on loan in the Championship with QPR.

The Verdict

It does seem strange that this deal has yet to be confirmed one way or another.

You would have thought that by now, the relevant authorities would have been able to confirm the transfer one way or another, if it is simply a case of confirming the timings on the paperwork for the deal.

I can also understand the frustrations of Bowyer here. The Charlton manager will be wanting to make plans for the weeks, and indeed season ahead, and that is hard to do when you do not know just who you will have available to you and when they will be available from.

As well as that, you also have to have some sympathy with Hemed himself here, with the striker seemingly left in limbo and unable to prepare for getting back to playing football until this deal is confirmed.
