Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer has confirmed that Patrick Bauer will not sign a new contract at The Valley, unless the club are promoted to The Championship this season.
The news comes just days after The Lancashire Telegraph reported that Blackburn Rovers were set to make a fresh move for the centre back in the summer, having previously approached Charlton about his services following their own promotion to The Championship at the end of last season.
Speaking about Bauer in his pre match press conference on Thursday morning, Bowyer reiterated that the German’s situation is out of their control, with promotion the only chance of keeping him at The Valley.
LB ???? "Pat Bauer made it clear last summer that he won’t sign another contract. I think the only chance we have of him staying here is if we get promoted. He has been excellent for us and his performances have been outstanding, but we can’t control it." #cafc

Bauer joined Charlton from Portuguese side Maritimo in June 2015, experiencing relegation from the Championship in his first season at The Valley, with the German going on to make 125 appearances and score eight goals in all competitions for The Addicks.
Talk about adding pressure to a promotion push. Bauer has been hugely impressive in defence for Charlton this season, so Lee Bowyer is understandably keen to keep him hold of him.
Blackburn meanwhile will surely have had their ears pricked up by Bowyer’s comments, with the club badly in need of defensive reinforcements following a season that has seen them concede more goals than any other club outside the Championship’s bottom three.
