Charlton Athletic boss Lee Bowyer has admitted that he unsure whether defender Anfernee Dijksteel will be at the club come the end of the transfer window.

The 22-year-old was a hugely important player for the Addicks as they won promotion to the Championship last season, making 39 appearances in all competitions for Bowyer's side.

The right-back, able to play on the right-hand side of a five-man midfield or in defensive midfield, has emerged as a target for fellow Championship sides Bristol City and Middlesbrough in recent times.

The latter have reportedly had bids turned down for the Dutch defender, as Jonathan Woodgate looks to add another right-back to his squad before Thursday afternoon's deadline.

But speaking about the interest in his defender, Bowyer admitted that he is unsure whether the defender will be a Charlton player come the end of the summer.

He said, via the News Shopper: "I don’t know, if I’m honest. There’s obviously interest in him but he’s a good player, so we’ll have to see. We’ll have to see what happens over the weekend now.

"Hopefully no one was here watching him today because he’d done really well. We’ll just have to wait and see."

Dijksteel started and played for the duration of Charlton's 2-1 win away at Blackburn Rovers at the weekend, where goals from Ben Purrington and Lyle Taylor secured an impressive opening day victory for the London club.

The Verdict

I think that it would be a massive blow for Charlton if they were to lose Dijksteel to another club at this stage of the summer.

He was so important for them last season, displaying so much pace and power down the flanks, and at 22 years of age, he is still at a good age where he can grow and develop as a player.

Leaving at this stage would also leave Bowyer with very little time to replace the Dutchman.
