Charlton Athletic boss Lee Bowyer has suggested that Lyle Taylor will be available to face Hull City after shaking off an ankle injury suffered against Middlesbrough last weekend.

Taylor received treatment in the second half after taking a knock on his ankle during the 1-0 defeat Middlesbrough, but the 29-year-old pushed through the pain barrier as he went on to complete the full 90 minutes for the south London side.

Charlton's talisman has already missed a large chunk of the season through injury after he was sidelined for three months between September and December, but Taylor has still managed to net a total of 11 league goals during Charlton's survival bid.

Speaking to London News Online, Bowyer has now expressed his belief that Taylor will be fully fit for the trip to the KCOM Stadium this coming Saturday, with the striker having been set to train with the first-team squad this afternoon.

"I think he is okay," Bowyer said.

“Naby [Sarr] is training today and Lyle should train today.

“There was about three who didn’t train on Monday and Tuesday but should train today.”

It has been a turbulent week for Charlton after they dropped into the Championship relegation zone last weekend, with a public dispute between chairman Matt Southall and majority shareholder Tahnoon Nimer having caused uncertainty at the club.

The Verdict

Taylor's availability represents a much-needed boost for Charlton given they eventful week they have had, with the Addicks now in need of three points in order to lift the mood around The Valley following a troubled couple of days on and off the pitch.

There can be no doubt that Taylor's prolific goalscoring ability makes him one of the most important figures at the club, and it will always give the team a boost if the former AFC Wimbledon man is leading the line in the club's relegation fight.

The Addicks' trip to Hull now represents a crucial game in the club's battle for survival following the Boro defeat, and Taylor's presence in attack will be key in seeing off Grant McCann's side who have struggled defensively of late.
