Charlton Athletic boss Lee Bowyer has highlighted the Leeds United weakness he will be looking to exploit when the two sides meet on Saturday.

Charlton welcome the league leaders to the Valley, knowing that a win could see them draw level on points with Marcelo Bielsa’s men.

The top of the Championship is congested at the moment, with first through eighth all within three points of each other.

The top-of-the-table Whites have looked a well-balanced team this season and have conceded the least goals in the division and scored more than all but three sides.

However, it appears Bowyer has identified a floor that he feels he can exploit on Saturday.

Speaking to Leeds Live, he explained: “I’ll watch them more this week, but they have weaknesses. They just bomb so many people forward.

“As good as they are going forward they are going to be vulnerable at the back as well. But you’ve got to get the ball first.”

The visit of the Whites will be a reunion of sorts for Bowyer, who made nearly 250 appearances for the Yorkshire club as a player.

Charlton may be led by another ex-Leeds player on the pitch, as it is understood that captain Jason Pearce is expected to be fit for Saturday’s game.

The Verdict

Despite the weakness that Bowyer feels he has identified, this looks set to be a very difficult game for Charlton.

Leeds have been imperious on the road this season, winning all four of their away games in the league and conceding just once.

The Addicks started the season well but have lost their previous two games and look a much poorer side in the absence of striker Lyle Taylor, who is currently sidelined due to injury.
