Lee Bowyer has given an update on Birmingham City’s transfer links with Taylor Richards and Kasey Palmer.

Alex Crook of talkSPORT claimed that Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Richards is set to sign for Birmingham City this transfer window.

Bristol City’s Palmer has also been linked with a move to the club.

Bowyer was asked about the stories linking Birmingham with both players, but insisted that it was not up for discussion. However, he did compliment Richards’ game and claimed that he is a player he admires.

“I don’t really want to talk about other people’s players, I think that’s the wrong thing to do. I could roll you off a big list of players we are looking at and we are interested in,” said Bowyer, via Birmingham Live

“Taylor is obviously a good player, we know him, I know he did well at Doncaster last season, I like him as a player.”

Bowyer was equally complimentary of Palmer, but again insisted on not commenting on another club’s player.

“Again, it’s the same thing for me, he is a Bristol City player and I like him as a player but I am not going to comment on other people’s players,” Bowyer added.

“There is a lot of names being thrown around at the moment and that’s something I can’t control.”

Birmingham City are currently 18th in the Championship, with 27 points from 24 games. They are eight points clear of the relegation zone, but someway off the play-off places.

Bowyer’s side are winless in four league games, including defeats in their last two. Their last win came against Blackpool, with a 1-0 victory at home.

Since then they have suffered defeats to Millwall, Blackburn Rovers and QPR, with a 2-2 draw against Cardiff City sandwiched in between.

The Blues next face Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup Third Round on January 8. Their league campaign then resumes with a trip to Preston North End on January 15.

The Verdict

It is common enough for managers to not want to comment on another club’s player, as a mark of respect.

However, Birmingham are in need of midfield reinforcement and will surely be dipping into the window this month to do so.

The rumours are swirling around these deals and where there is smoke there is usually fire. Bowyer was also very coy in complimenting both players and there’s no doubt he’s keeping an eye on their current development with a view to bringing them into the fold at the club.
