Birmingham City boss Lee Bowyer has revealed that he expects Kristian Pedersen and Jeremie Bela to leave the club when their contracts expire in the summer.

Due to their contract situation, there has been speculation surrounding the pair for some time, even though the left-back and the winger have both featured regularly over the years.

Yet, speaking to Birmingham Live, Bowyer explained that they are both in line to depart, as he confirmed that Bela has an offer on the table from elsewhere.

"From what I understand yes. I think there was an offer made to him a while back. I don’t foresee Bela staying – or Pedersen. I think they are both going to go.

"That’s where we are at. That’s a question you will have to ask Craig, they will sort out the financial side and making an offer to players. My job is to try to improve them and I will continue to do that."

It's set to be a very busy summer at St. Andrew's, with Bowyer making it clear that he wants to revamp the squad, if he is kept on as manager after an underwhelming campaign.

The verdict

This won't come as a massive surprise as the fact the players haven't signed new deals by now means that they were always likely to leave.

Losing the pair will be a blow, because they have both proven themselves to be good players at this level, particularly Pedersen who has been a reliable performer since joining.

But, this is what happens when you let individuals run their contracts down, and it heaps pressure on the recruitment team ahead of a crucial summer window.
