Lee Bowyer cites Chelsea man as ‘great player’ following yet another stirring display

Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer was full of praise for his on-loan midfielder Conor Gallagher after seeing the youngster score once again yesterday.

Gallagher fired in a stunning goal as the Addicks saw off Derby County 3-0 at The Valley and Bowyer was delighted with the midfielder.

“The kid’s doing so well, I don’t know how much more I can praise him. It’s not just what he brings in possession, his work-rate… he’s everywhere. He’s literally everywhere. He just does not stop working for the team and we’re lucky to have him. He’s a great player and Chelsea have got a good one there,” Bowyer said his post-match comments.

Gallagher signed in the summer from Chelsea as the Blues look to get some minutes in the tank for some of their younger players and Bowyer, who has led the charge for the club following their promotion last season, is in little doubt about the quality Gallagher possesses.

“He’s only 19 and he’s got so much to learn about the game but he’s fearless and he leaves everything out on the pitch and he can play, the kid can play,” he added.

Charlton are doing well this season and are within touching distance of the play-off places after winning promotion from League One last year.

Gallagher was brought in as the club failed to keep hold of Krystian Bielik, who coincidentally, signed for the Rams on a permanent basis in the summer.

The Verdict

Gallagher is already looking like the find of the season in the Championship so to see him banging a goal in like he did yesterday shouldn’t be a big surprise.

There’s going to be no chance you would think of Charlton signing him on a permanent deal, so the Addicks fans will be hoping he can drive them towards a second successive promotion and leave a massive stamp on proceedings at The Valley.
