Birmingham City are close to adding young Chelsea player Juan Familia-Castillo on loan, according to a report from Birmingham Live.
The Blues have had a pretty productive summer recruitment drive so far, with the likes of Chuks Aneke and Ryan Woods arriving at St Andrew’s as Lee Bowyer gets to grips with his first summer in charge of the club.
It looks as though there are still areas that he wants to add to, though, with Birmingham Live reporting that Familia-Castillo is looking likely to be the next arrival in the West Midlands.
According to the report, the Dutch youngster is set to make a temporary switch away from Chelsea – something we’ve seen many young Blues do over the years – and he’ll be looking to impress under Bowyer.
This is a signing that should make sense.
Familia-Castillo can play as a left-back or left-wing-back and Bowyer has shown as a manager he likes to have that option with his players in those areas as he switches between a back three and back four.
Bowyer has often loaned players from Chelsea in the past, too, with Conor Gallagher and Ian Maatsen having success under him at Charlton, and so it’s clear he’s eager to keep that relationship going now he is in charge at St Andrew’s.
