Sheffield Wednesday playmaker Barry Bannan has claimed that Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola told him he was a fantastic footballer after the FA Cup tie between the two sides last month, which has drawn an interesting response from fans of the Yorkshire club.

Bannan has been a vital player for the Owls once again this season – featuring 35 times in all competitions and grabbing two goals and seven assists.

The Scotsman is one of the finest creative weapons in Garry Monk's side and it appears that it isn't just his own manager that is a bit fan of him.

Speaking to the Daily Record, Bannan revealed that Guardiola had heaped praise on him after the FA Cup tie between City and Wednesday in March.

He said: "He actually stopped me as I was walking to the players’ lounge and spoke to me personally.

“He shook my hand and said: ‘Well done, you’re a fantastic footballer’."

The Owls were narrowly beaten by Guardiola's side, with Sergio Aguero's 53rd-minute goal proving decisive at Hillsborough.

It appears Bannan's comments have not gone down particularly well with Owls fans, many of whom took to Twitter to voice their thoughts.
