Results in recent weeks have been positive for Aston Villa, who have managed to put a miserable December behind them and strengthen their grip on a place in the Sky Bet Championship’s top-six.  

Steve Bruce’s side currently sit fourth in the table, and a run of three consecutive victories in the Championship has boosted their promotion hopes, with the Villans now in a strong position to push on.

Villa entertain Barnsley in the Championship this afternoon, with Bruce’s side knowing it is an opportunity to put some pressure on Derby County, who sit second, but dropped points last night against Bristol City.

Bruce will welcome back Mile Jedinak and Glenn Whelan to his squad this weekend, after the club’s official Twitter account (@AVFCOfficial) confirmed the duo were back in training.

Villa’s supporters were enthused to see Jedinak back in the squad, but were less than impressed by the prospect of Whelan returning to the starting XI.
