The situation at Bury worsened last night as the players put out a statement in which they blasted the club's owner, Steve Dale.

Senior professional Nicky Adams released the message on Twitter, with the squad not holding back in their assessment of the club's recent situation and their own struggle for wages.

With manager Ryan Lowe closing in on a switch to Plymouth, it seems the promise they've built up with promotion back to League One is set to be wasted, with the playing squad on the brink of rebellion.

The statement claims that the players haven't been paid for 12 weeks and they've also found out their contracts are not valid for the forthcoming season. Then they ask the chairman to step aside and allow another buyer to come in and pick up the broken pieces of the once-proud football club.

They end by claiming the chairman has 'no regard' for the club, players or their families in a statement which will both shock and disgust fans in equal measure.

Quite where the players go from here is anyone's guess, but instead of enjoying a relaxing summer on the beach after a hard-fought promotion campaign, they're fighting for their livelihoods with an owner who is staying silent on the matter.

It's fair to say reaction has been largely positive for the players from across the football world.
