Wigan are right in the thick of a League One promotion battle and they'll be boosted by the news that one of their regular players could be available again for their next game.

That player is Jordan Cousins, with Leam Richardson revealing to Wigan Today that the injury he suffered was 'manageable' and not something that could see him ruled out for the long-term.

The midfielder has played 12 times so far for the Latics this year and there was a worry that after suffering a knock in his last game, that he might end up having to spend some time out on the sidelines.

However, the good news for Wigan is that it could be just a 'dead leg' according to the Latics boss and that means he may feature at some point in their next League One tie and should be able to feature regularly over the festive period to boot.

The DW Stadium side will need it too, as they are currently tied on points with both Rotherham and Wycombe and will want to try and kick on and establish a lead over both of them in their pursuit of Championship football again.

Speaking to Wigan Today about Cousins' injury, Leam Richardson said: "Hopefully it’s just a dead leg which, although it’s painful, is manageable. But it was a collision, it wasn’t a recurrence of the injury he had."

It's positive then that it could be more short-term rather than long-term for the midfielder. It also means that one of their key players can remain a key feature in the starting eleven going forward.

The Verdict

Wigan have done a superb job in League One so far this season and can certainly consider themselves genuine title contenders. If they kick on in the second half of the campaign, they could definitely bag a spot back in the Championship.

The Latics would have suffered a blow had Cousins been seriously injured. Luckily though, it appears to be nothing more than a knock and his availability could be crucial for them come the second half of the campaign.
