The 2019/20 League One winners Coventry City have found life back in the second tier very tough indeed so far.

After 11 games, Coventry find themselves in 21st place with just eight points, and if it wasn't for the six-point deduction of Sheffield Wednesday they would be in the relegation zone with Wycombe Wanderers and Derby County.

There weren't mass additions in the summer from manager Mark Robins, as he chose to try and keep the band together rather than change things up.

To the delight of fans, Callum O'Hare joined permanently from Aston Villa, and other exciting captures included Tyler Walker and Gustavo Hamer.

Coventry have shown glimpses of quality on the pitch, but they've been struggling to see games out. We've looked at three trends that have been clear to see from the Sky Blues since the start of the season.

A leaky defence

With a back five very similar to what they went with in League One last year, it's no surprise to see Coventry have conceded 23 goals - the most in the division.

The only player added to the back-line has been Brighton loanee Leo Østigård, whilst wing-backs Sam McCallum and Ryan Giles both returned on loan deals.

Robins will probably have a centre-back on his shopping list come January if the goals don't stop being shipped, because if it continues, Coventry will be in a perilous position.

Conceding late goals

There has been a worrying trend in Coventry's last five games - they've conceded a goal within the last 10 minutes in all of them.

Some of them have mattered little, for example Blackburn's 88th minute goal was to seal a 4-0 victory, and George Puscas' 92nd minute strike for Reading was simply a consolation.

But Nottingham Forest's 97th minute winner, or Middlesbrough's late surge in the 81st and 95th minute to win 2-0 shows that the Sky Blues seem to lack focus going into crunch time.

Robins shifting systems

In Mark Robins' time at Coventry, especially recently anyway, we've seen him implement a wing-back system with two attacking midfielders behind the striker - usually Callum O'Hare and either Jordan Shipley or Jamie Allen.

However things have changed in the last three games.

Robins has shifted instead to a two up-front formation, with Maxime Biamou being the man to start all three and Tyler Walker or Matt Godden partnering him.

This may end up being a permanent change, as it has brought six goals in that time - but the Sky Blues have still lost all of those matches.
