Carlisle United are set to complete the signing of goalkeeper Tomas Holy following his departure from Ipswich Town, journalist Alan Nixon has reported, via Patreon.

Holy joined Ipswich from Gillingham back in the summer of 2019, and went on to make 65 appearances in all competitions for the League One club.

But having been loaned out twice during the 2021/22 season - in which he failed to make a single league appearance for Ipswich - Holy will leave the club when his contract at Portman Road expires this summer.

Now though, it seems that the 30-year-old will not be out of the game for long, with his next club apparently already lined up.

According to this latest update, Holy is now set to join Carlisle when his contract with Ipswich expires, signing for the Cumbrians on a free transfer.

Carlisle finished 20th in League Two last season, and Holy could become their second signing of the transfer window, after the arrival of midfielder Owen Moxon from Annan Athletic.

The Verdict

This looks as though it could be a very good signing for Carlisle.

With Mark Howard and Magnus Norman having both left Brunton Park this summer, the Cumbrians are in significant need of some goalkeeping reinforcement.

Holy will obviously provide them with that, and the fact he has been a reliable feature at League One in the past, means he could be an important presence for Paul Simpson's side at this level.

The profile of Holy means this could be seen as something of a statement of intent from the club, which is encouraging following their strong end to last season that saw them pull away from the relegation zone.
