A surprise candidate has emerged for vacant managerial position at Sky Bet Championship club Fulham, in the form of Exeter City's long-serving boss Paul Tisdale, Sky Sports are reporting.

Paul Tisdale- Exeter City
Tisdale is a surprise contender for the Fulham job

The loyal Tisdale has been in the role at St James' Park for nine years now, making him one of the longest serving managers in the country and the League Two club would no doubt be unhappy to see him leave.

His most successful time during his spell came back in 2008 when he took the club from the Conference into League Two, before guiding them to a second promotion into League One just 12 months later.

It has to be said that it is great to see a club look to the lower leagues for a manager rather than take a punt on inexperienced foreigners - a punt which Fulham have fallen foul of previously.

It is thought that Tisdale is now on a shortlist of three along with ex-Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson and Reading manager Steve Clarke.
