According to HITC Sport, the Millers could be set to make an approach to the League Two side for the ex-Halifax Town manager's services.

Rotherham are on the lookout for a new boss following yesterday's shock departure of the charismatic Steve Evans and it is thought that Wilder is in the frame.

Following his departure, the Evans spoke BBC Radio Sheffield: "The chairman and I had our normal meeting yesterday morning and the decision was made after we decided we were heading in different directions.

"We both shed tears and it will be a moment that lives with me for a long time.

"There were no strong words just a difference of opinion but differences we couldn't get around. Tony Stewart and I have been best friends since I came here and we end like that.

Both Neil Redfearn and Stuart Gray have been linked with the vacant role over the last 24-hours and it remains to be seen which avenue the club will go down.

Whoever gets the gig at the New York Stadium will inherit a talented squad that has been built by Evans, one which oozes with Championship experience.

Not only that but the new man should be walking in to a new job with a group of players who are in confident mood with the Millers having won their last two matches.

The Millers are currently outside of the relegation zone in the Sky Bet Championship, and sit in 20th place, having amassed eight points from nine league games.
