Port Vale have today completed the double signing of Peterborough United's Idris Kanu and Gateshead's Theo Vassell, announced the club's official website

Kanu joins the Valiants on a season-long loan whereas Vassell has signed a permanent contract at Vale Park, signing on a one-year deal.

Striker Kanu joined Peterborough United from Aldershot Town at the start of the 2017/18 season but found his first-team opportunities limited at London Road.

The 18-year-old previously became Aldershot's youngest ever player in the 2016/17 season as he made 30 appearances. He will join up with former Peterborough United team-mate Ricky Miller who signed for the Valiants last week.

Vassell is a centre-back who impressed with Gateshead in the National League last season, featuring 35 times.

He started his career at Stoke City before signing for Oldham Athletic.

The verdict

It is very hard to judge how good these signings are. Kanu had a tricky time at London Road last season and never really showed any signs of quality promised by Darragh MacAnthony when he joined the Posh.

It could, however, be a case of playing regular football which he will hopefully get more of a chance to do at Vale Park.

Vassell seems like a better signing for the Valiants. Having impressed last season in non-league he has been given a crack of the whip in League Two. He may not work out, but it is a fairly risk-free signing.
