Millwall produced a superb showing against Aston Villa last week but could only leave the West Midlands with a point after failing to convert their chances.

It’s been the story of the Lions' season so far, playing well but not getting the results to match. And, a six game winless run before beating Sheffield United meant fans were nervously looking over their shoulder at the relegation zone.

As it stands, Neil Harris’ men are seven points clear of safety and will be aiming to kick on by putting a good run together.

However, to do that Millwall will need to bring in extra quality and depth to their squad, particularly in certain key areas and need to make the most of the upcoming January market.

Here we look at five players that the club should look to bring to The Den in the window.

Ryan Leonard

Millwall tracked the Southend midfielder along with Sheffield United in the summer, but the Shrimpers held firm to keep their man.

The Blades are back in for Leonard already but are struggling to do a deal. With just six months on his contract left, the Lions should try and agree a fee before the Yorkshire club do.

A classy player, Leonard would bring composure and quality on the ball that Harris’ men lack at times.

Devante Cole

Reports have suggested that Millwall were distancing themselves from the striker after he was linked with a move, however, fans will hope that’s just a case of the club playing it down.

Cole is exactly what the Lions need. He is quick, mobile and most importantly a good finisher.

The Londoners create chances with ease and the 8-goal Fleetwood man would finish them off.

Cian Bolger

Staying with Fleetwood, big defender Cian Bolger is ready for the Championship too.

Dominant in the air and powerful, you can see why Bristol City identified him as the man to replace Aden Flint in the summer if he was to leave Ashton Gate.

The cruel injury to Byron Webster has left Millwall short in this area so a move for the League One man would make sense.

Jack Marriott

Every Millwall fan will be calling for the club to sign a striker and Marriott is a standout option.

He has scored regularly at Peterborough and has a lot of time to get even better.

There will be competition for the 23-year old but Millwall can offer him regular football in the Championship and he could become the man to solve the Lions issues in front of goal.

Erhun Oztumer

Millwall should be looking at bringing quality players from the lower leagues and Oztumer fits that category.

Whilst Harris may need to adapt from his usual 4-4-2 to accommodate the skilful attacking midfielder, he offers a completely different option for the team.

At times, Millwall need that bit of magic to unlock a defence and he would encourage the side to play more football and bring excitement to the fans.
