Bristol Rovers have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Burnley left-back Ali Koiki according to journalist Alan Nixon.

It is also claimed by Nixon that Charlton Athletic were also interested in a deal to sign Koiki, but it appears as though Bristol Rovers have won the race to land his signature before the summer transfer window reaches a conclusion on Friday evening.

Koiki is currently a free-agent, after rejecting contract offers from Burnley, and it appears as though he's reached an agreement to sign for the Pirates.

Bristol Rovers are currently sat 12th in the League One table, and will be looking to challenge for a top-six finish in the third-tier this season.

They finished 14th in the third-tier standings last term, and will be looking to build on some impressive recent showings under the management of Ben Garner.

They have won their last two matches in League One, which means they're just two points adrift of the play-off positions after four matches.

Bristol Rovers are set to return to action this weekend, when they take on Burton Albion, in what could prove to be a tricky test for the Pirates, where Koiki could be in line to make his debut for the League One side.

The Verdict:

This is a move that will work for all parties involved.

Koiki wasn't going to be getting near the Burnley starting XI, so I'm not surprised that he rejected contract offers from the Premier League club in the summer.

This is a smart signing by Bristol Rovers, and they will be hoping that he can Koiki can hit the ground running with them at the earliest of opportunities.

If he can do that, then it's somewhat of a coup for the League One side.
