Two trialists trained with the Seasiders last week, even though it’s not sure that they will be given the nod.

But manager Neil McDonald has now confirmed that his club has been given the go-ahead to negotiate with two players, adding that he is looking to finalise those deals as soon as possible

“Players have been giving permission to talk to us and we are waiting on answers now’’, he said. “It’s now down to the players to decide what they want to do. Hopefully we can get one or two deals over the line quickly.”

The Tangerines boss has previously revealed that he aims to add two defenders and a striker, but refused to mention any targets.

Swindon Town frontman Michael Smith has been identified as one of the names on McDonald’s wishlist. The 23-year-old had an impressive campaign with the Robins last season, bagging 18 goals along the way.

But it wouldn’t be easy to snatch the 6ft 4 away from the County Ground, particularly after he made it clear that he had no reason to leave the club.

Blackpool have already signed five players this summer, but McDonald may well have discovered that he will need to further add to the squad, particularly after a disappointing start that saw them sit at the bottom of the table with one point from four games.
