Sheffield United striker James Hanson is subject of a £200,000 bid from League One outfit Scunthorpe United, reports The Sheffield Star.

The 29-year-old only moved to Bramall Lane back in January of this year following a lengthy stint at Bradford City, with whom he helped reach the final of the League Cup back in 2013, and then a few months later secure promotion via the play-offs to League One.

And the forward earned another promotion last season with Chris Wilder’s Blades, with Hanson scoring one goal and laying on four assists in 13 matches to help the club win the League One title, and thus return to the second tier after a six-year absence.

However, he has failed to make a single Championship appearance so far this term, and it appears that Graham Alexander’s Scunthorpe are seeking to exploit that by reportedly launching a bid believed to be worth £200,000 for the Blades star.

The Iron missed out on promotion to the second tier last season after losing 3-2 to Millwall in the semi-finals of the play-offs, this all after missing out on automatic promotion by just four points.

And former Fleetwood Town boss Alexander will again be targeting the top two spots and will likely know that further reinforcements are needed to do just that, and bringing in a strong and powerful forward like Hanson could be exactly what they need to go that one step better this term.

But whether they are indeed able to get a deal done in the final days of the transfer window remains to be seen.

The Verdict: James Hanson only moved to Sheffield United back in January, but certainly contributed in the second half of the season as Chris Wilder’s men eased to the League One title.

However, the 29-year-old has yet to feature in the Championship for the Blades this term and has only played 52 minutes of football since the campaign began, throwing into doubt his future at Bramall Lane ahead of the remainder of the season.

And Scunthorpe United clearly see the forward as someone who can significantly benefit their League One promotion push this season, and with 37 goals and 19 assists in 144 games at that level during his career, you can see why.

A bid believed to be around £200,000 has been launched by the Iron, but whether that is enough to convince Wilder to part with the striker remains to be seen.
