Steve Gibson’s latest comments have certainly sparked a reaction among the Middlesbrough fans.
The Teessiders are on a run of 11 games without a win in all competitions – a stretch which goes back to the New Years Day victory over Preston North End.
As a result Middlesbrough find themselves in the Championship relegation zone with just 11 fixtures to go.
Woodgate has been the subject of criticism from supporters in recent weeks, with many suggesting that a replacement should be brought in to help the club over the line in their battle for survival.
But according to the club chairman, Woodgate will stay in charge ‘no matter what happens’ as they prepare to continue what they’ve started.
Will Middlesbrough avoid relegation from the Championship?
Speaking to Teesside Live, Gibson said: “Jonathan has my full support. Jonathan is not the problem.
“He is the figurehead of the club and has had to take a lot of criticism for problems which he inherited.
“I can assure fans we are working very hard as a club to deal with those problems. Jonathan has my support no matter what happens. My total support.
“He is dedicated to this football club and has a vision for a style and approach that we all endorse.
“He has had a difficult first season but there is a real talent there. I am convinced of that. Where we are right now as a club is not the fault of Jonathan Woodgate.”
As you’d imagine, Gibson’s comments have attracted quite the response from the Middlesbrough fans.
Here’s what they’ve had to say.
Left this all a bit late, I guess season ticket sales aren't going too well.
I have little confidence that the people who have repeatedly made these mistakes and have repeatedly said they will learn from them will actually learn from them. Needs to relinquish power to a DOF.

He’s already accepted the drop and it’ll suit him financially. No fighting talk, concern or determination to arrest this slide into obscurity. Some good name dropping of big teams who have fallen away so that makes it perfectly acceptable for us to do so.

Knowing where the issues are yet backing woody suggest to me he doesn’t.

That’s a bit more than the usual dreaded vote of confidence. It’s being to feel a lot like relegation…………..😢 pic.twitter.com/XNaw2UQiHE

My support for Woodgate was gone weeks ago, and now, with absurd comments like this from Gibson my support for the club has! If he for one second thinks this is somehow going to inspire fans he’s as deluded as Woodgate! I’m done….

Good to hear him finally communicate with the fans, but I’m not really hearing any solutions.
– JW is a problem, tactically poor and hasn’t implemented any sort of style.
– SG got it right with AK because he went out of his comfort zone for once.

Stubborn fool, we will go down then

Can you identify these Middlesbrough players based on their date of birth and birthplace? Have a go!
