Walsall have hit back in the Richard O’Donnell contract saga by issuing the player with a 7th June deadline to sign a new deal, according to the Walsall Express & Star.
The Saddlers chief executive Stefan Gamble has however hinted that he may be prepared to negotiate further with the 26-year-old who has a host of admirers in both the Championship and League One.
Talks over a new deal for the former Sheffield Wednesday custodian have been ongoing since November but it wasn’t until earlier this month that O’Donnell was given a formal offer of a new contract.
Gamble told the Express & Star: ‘We have been speaking to Richard for some time and we made him an offer on 7th May which had a one-month deadline attached to it – he needs to make his choice by the 7th June.’
O’Donnell enjoyed a superb season between the posts for the Saddlers last season as they reached the JPT Final and achieved a top-half League One finish.
FLW understands that the goalkeeper is attracting interest from Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United, Bolton Wanderers and Reading.
