Jermaine Beckford is undoubtedly the man for the big occasion, despite his ability in both the Premier League and Sky Bet Championship often questioned.

Back in 2010 Beckford played a vital role in helping Leeds United secure promotion from League One back into the Championship, scoring the winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Bristol Rovers, which secured a second-tier return.

From Leeds, Beckford went to Everton, where he found opportunities limited in the top-flight, but did show glimpses of his brilliance.

Spells with Leicester City, Huddersfield Town and Bolton Wanderers followed, but Beckford failed to rediscover the form that had made him a crowd favourite at Elland Road.

Linking back up with Simon Grayson, his Leeds manager, at Preston North End was Beckford’s next step, and he impressed during his initial loan spell at Deepdale, scoring a Play-Off final hat-trick to send the club back into the Championship- also earning himself a permanent contract.

Since the club’s Championship return Beckford has struggled, and this year he has began to find opportunities limited as his career comes to an end, making just 18 appearances across all competitions.

Grayson has confirmed that Beckford will be one player to leave the club during the summer, becoming a free agent at the age of 33.

Beckford’s next step is unclear, and having found opportunities so limited during the 2016/17 campaign, another Championship move could be unlikely.

However, Beckford has an outstanding record in League One, and his efforts during the promotion of both Leeds and Preston are there for everybody to see.

Despite his age, Beckford could be a very shrewd signing for a number of League One clubs, especially those who are on the verge of competing for promotion to the Championship.

Another of Beckford’s former sides, Scunthorpe United, have recently lost in the Play-Off semi finals, and the addition of the 33-year old striker over the summer could aid them in their quest for promotion next year.
