Accrington Stanley are interested in re-signing QPR attacker Paul Smyth this month, TalkSport journalist Sean Gallagher has reported.

Smyth spent the first half of this season on loan with Stanley's League One rivals Charlton, making 14 appearances for the Addicks.

However, it has been reported that the 23-year-old is set to be recalled from his loan spell with Charlton, and it now seems as though Stanley could be ready to pounce.

According to this latest update from Gallagher, Stanley have expressed an interest in signing Smyth this month, although it remains to be seen whether any deal would be a loan or a permanent one.

Smyth previously spent time on loan at Accrington during the second half of the 2018/19 season, during which time he scored three goals in 13 appearances in all competitions for the club.

As things stand, there are just six months remaining on Smyth's contract with QPR, meaning he could leave the club for free at the end of this season.

Stanley currently sit eighth in the League One table, four points off the play-off places following their 2-0 win over Hull that helped knock the Tigers off top spot in the standings on Tuesday night.

The Verdict

This may not be a bad deal for those involved.

It is hard to see Smyth forcing his way back into QPR's side during the second half of this season, so a move away could suit him better in terms of game time.

Given he is already familiar with Stanley from that previous loan spell there, this could be suitable destination for him were he to move this month.

Indeed, with his QPR contract set to expire in the summer, it could be important for him to make an impact during the second half of the season, to secure himself a deal for into next season and beyond.
